A Lifelong Love Affair with ABBA

This is your webmaster Bert speaking. I like to introduce myself, in a way you’ll understand why I started this radiostation devoted to ABBA. I live in Amsterdam, and for as long as I can remember, music has been the soundtrack of my life. I have always been a passionate music lover and a VideoDJ, spending countless hours surrounded by records, visuals, and the energy that music creates when it brings people together. Out of all the artists and bands I have admired over the years, ABBA has always held the most special place in my heart.

My journey as an ABBA fan has been lifelong and transformative. It started like many others—with those unforgettable melodies and harmonies that came out of the radio and television in the 1970s and 1980s. But it grew into something much deeper: a connection not only to the music, but also to the history, the creativity, and the community that surrounds ABBA.

Through ABBAradio.com, I want to share that passion with you. This online station plays ABBA’s music 24 hours a day, including their greatest hits, hidden gems, and solo work by Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid. But more than that, it’s a station built on connection—connection to the fans, to the stories behind the songs, and to the living legacy that continues to inspire millions.

The Fan Club That Changed My Life

Becoming a member of the Official International ABBA Fan Club was a turning point in my life. What might seem like a simple membership card turned out to be an entryway into an entire world. Through the fan club, I discovered opportunities I could never have imagined.

One of the highlights of my journey was being invited to the VIP Premiere Party of ABBA Voyage in London. This was no ordinary event—it was a dream come true. Standing in the same room as all four members of ABBA—Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid—was something I will never forget. After decades of listening to their voices, studying their records, and admiring their artistry, suddenly there they were: real, present, alive, and part of a new chapter in their story.

Another unforgettable experience came during the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of ABBA The Museum in Stockholm. The city itself already holds so much history, but that weekend was magical. Fans from around the world gathered for walking tours, storytelling events, and celebrations. I had the chance to meet so many like-minded people, all united by a love for ABBA. Two of those fans, Ann-Katrine and Lesley, became especially dear to me. They hold a special place in my heart, because friendships like these are what transform fandom into family.

Walking in ABBA’s Footsteps

Part of what makes being an ABBA fan so meaningful is the opportunity to walk in the band’s footsteps—literally. Stockholm is filled with places tied to their history: recording studios, concert venues, and even the quiet corners where photoshoots once took place.

One of the most emotional moments for me was visiting Skansen and the atelier of Swedish painter Julius Kronberg. This was the very location where the album cover for ABBA’s final studio album, The Visitors, was photographed. To stand there in person, after having stared at that record sleeve thousands of times, was almost overwhelming. It was as if the worlds of imagination and reality suddenly merged.

That is the magic of ABBA. Their music and their images are not just entertainment—they are part of our personal histories. When you visit the places where those histories were created, it feels like stepping into the music itself.

ABBA’s Timeless Legacy

What amazes me most is how ABBA has managed to remain relevant across generations. Many bands fade into nostalgia, remembered fondly by those who were there but forgotten by the world at large. ABBA is different.

The Mamma Mia! films brought their music to new audiences who might never have discovered them otherwise. The ABBA Voyage concert experience in London has redefined what live performance can be, blending cutting-edge technology with timeless songs. And ABBA The Museum in Stockholm continues to be a living tribute, not just to the band’s history, but to the ongoing impact they have on fans worldwide.

All of this shows that ABBA is not locked in the past. They are timeless. Their music continues to resonate, inspire, and connect.

Why ABBAradio.com?

This is where ABBAradio.com comes in. On the surface, yes, it’s an online radio station that plays ABBA music 24/7. But at its heart, it’s something more.

I created this station not just to share the songs we all love, but to create a bridge between the music and the wider ABBA universe. Every track is a doorway to stories: stories of fans, stories of places, stories of ABBA’s creative journey.

Through ABBAradio.com, I want to show that being an ABBA fan is not just about listening to “Dancing Queen” for the thousandth time—although of course we all do that with joy. It’s about discovering the solo projects, the behind-the-scenes stories, the history of the band, and the community of fans who keep the legacy alive.

This station is built for people who love ABBA, but also for those who want to go deeper. Maybe you’ve seen Mamma Mia! and want to learn more. Maybe you’ve danced to “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” at a party and wondered what else ABBA created. Maybe you’re already a lifelong fan like me, always searching for new connections to the band’s story.

Whoever you are, ABBAradio.com is for you.

A Community, Not Just a Station

The most rewarding part of being an ABBA fan has been meeting other fans. Whether in Stockholm, London, or online, I’ve discovered a global family of people who share the same passion. Each of us brings our own stories, but together we create something bigger.

ABBAradio.com is not just about broadcasting music—it’s about fostering that sense of community. I want listeners to feel part of something, not just passive consumers of a playlist. That’s why I share stories, news, and memories alongside the music.

My dream is that this station becomes a meeting point for ABBA fans worldwide, a place where the music is the constant heartbeat, but the connections between people make it truly alive.

Looking Ahead

ABBA has given us so much: unforgettable music, innovative performances, and a legacy that continues to shine. My goal with ABBAradio.com is to give something back—to honor their art, celebrate their impact, and share the joy they’ve brought me with others.

I believe that when we listen to ABBA together, we do more than enjoy great songs. We connect across time, across geography, and across generations. We remind ourselves that music is one of the most powerful forces we have to bring people together.

Final Thoughts

Starting ABBAradio.com is my way of combining my lifelong love for ABBA, my passion for music, and my belief in community. It’s not just about replaying the hits—it’s about celebrating the journey, the stories, and the people who make ABBA’s legacy so vibrant today.

So whether you are a casual listener who loves the joy of “Mamma Mia,” a devoted fan who knows every B-side, or someone curious about the cultural phenomenon that is ABBA, I invite you to join me.

Tune in, sing along, discover, and connect.

Because ABBAradio.com is more than a station.
It’s a celebration of ABBA’s timeless music, and of the community that keeps their spirit alive.

Why does your display always say “Waterloo” as the song title?
